Jobless Rate Still Rising - Highest since Early 1980’s in US
Unemployment Is Still Going Up
OK, so long after the US economy showed every sign of tanking, the government and TV pundits were still telling us the nation had not entered a recession. Now the stock market seems to be struggling upwards, and so those same people are standing on their soapboxes with glad tidings. They admit that we were in a recession, but tell us that its all over now!
And yet, the jobless rate is now at 9.7 precent. And listen folks, this is people who are actively still seeking jobs, and does not count millions who have given up. Meanwhile, we are told that the good news is that the rate of job loss growth has slowed down. Yes, it made me tired to write those words, much less to have to understand that, and how it is good news.
Bright Spots For Jobs
Well, there are some sectors that are picking up, namely health care and education. So medical service providers and teacher types should be doing ok. Meanwhile we show job losses for construction, manufacturing, retail, financial jobs, and yes - even the government. The government cut 18,000 jobs, with 8,500 coming from the post office.
